Peaceful protest for Black Lives Matter - Leeds City Centre

On Sunday 14th June, Leeds held a peaceful protest for Black Lives Matter in millennium square.

It was organised by Black Voices Matter and was the first organised anti-racism protest in Leeds since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, USA, who died after a police officer restrained him by kneeling on his neck.

I’m so proud of my beautiful city, coming together and protesting for a cause which has been a very long time coming. Racial injustice and systematic racism have no place in the 21st century!

I’m even more pleased to say that the whole event was peaceful, and the majority of protestors wore face coverings and observed social distancing as much as possible - I’ve been to protests with a lot less room to move previously!

I wanted to ensure I documented this protest, it’s a part of history. As a photographer, I think it’s important to capture life, and history, as it happens before our very eyes.

For those that don’t know, my photography journey first started in Photographic Journalism - documenting real life, in all it’s raw and unapologetic form.

Take a look at some of the pictures I've captured below - stay safe folks.

Snap you later!
